It’s always wonderful and a real lesson in interpretation to hear composers sing their own songs, even if they croak through them: Reynaldo Hahn, Eisler, Samuel Barber… others? And then there are the composers of the Great American Songbook that sing: Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael…other suggestions?

After Richard Strauss, Hindemith is without a doubt the greatest German composer of the 20th century. Such invigorating, refreshing, stimulating music…a feast for heart and grey matter.
