The Polish tenor waited until he was past 50 before tackling the role of Carmen’s lover.

The Vienna press are in raptures.

You can see him on a *free* live stream from the Vienna Opera next Monday at 7pm local (1pm NY).

I hope it’s better than his crude, shouting Verdi….

Surprising…I’ve known Piotr personally for several years (when he and his wife are in New York) and I’ve never even thought about his age. His demeanor in person and on stage is perpetually youthful.

Also, in response to “Anonymous” – while you might describe Piotr Beczala’s singing with many words, “crude” would NEVER be among them. “Musical”? “elegant”? “dramatically engaged”? Absolutely. “Crude”? Never.

He’s a fine singer.. with more off nights in phases than one might expect considering his technique and intelligence.

Indeed – “crude” is hardly an appropriate term (and I’ve seen him in many performances) – but, in Verdi, he’s no Bergonzi.
    Who is!!!!
