Orchestra puts out call for 100 cellists. What to do when 155 turn up?
mainTomorrow is the centenary of Antonio Janigro, legendary cellist and revered founder of the Zagreb Soloists.
The ensemble put out a call for 100 cellists to play at a celebratory concert, one for each year of the master’s life.
But 155 have already registered and more are threatening to turn up.
Should be quite some show. See here.
They should play La Sardana, by Pablo Casals.
Renegotiate prices for the wine & cheese order
I certainly hope they will play and record Villa-Lobos. I loved listening to Janigro. I bet my friend Ovidiu Marinescu will be there.
They should play Joseph Jongen’s Deux Pièces for 4 cellos. It would sound magnificent.
What about Bachianas Brasilieras No. 1 or No. 5?
Janigro didn’t live 100 years. Therefore it is not “one for each year of the master’s life.” It’s 1 for each year since his birth.
Pedantry.
Does this affect the wine & cheese order? I don’t think it does.
