Anna Netrebko takes her new role to the Vienna Opera
mainThe diva sang Adriana Lecouvreur for this first timeĀ in June at the Mariinsky in St Petersburg.
Piotr Beczala has never sungĀ Maurizio in Cilea’s opera before.
They appear together at the Staatsoper from Thursday in a revival David McVicar’s 2014 staging.
First rehearsal pics:
Adriana Lecouvreur is one of my least favorite operas in the whole wide world. The piece makes break out in hives!! The work is best done by fading aging Divas who are looking for one last vehicle to perform. I have seen–under protest, I might add–three such perfomrances all with OLD BROKEN DOWN TATTERED Divas. And yes, as vile a piece as it is to me, I have to–reluctantly–admit that the three performances that I saw were well produced, well presented and very very good…and a complete waste of time. Sorry. I just cannot get on a wave length with that work. I am too old and too mean to feel otherwise.GGRRRRRRRR!
It is insufferably dull.
Very much agree. The work is nothing less than trash to these ears. A waste of time and resources.
How in the hell is Beczala going to sing the vital diminuendi in L’anima ho stanca?
The piece as a whole is a load of old toss.
Netrebko (and Beczala) sounded excellent in the rehearsal this morning.
Some seasoned opera lovers have a soft spot for “Adriana Lecouvreur”! I hope Mme Netrebko and Mr Beczala have a resounding success.
..two attractive singers who never fail to convince…WM
