String quartet walks away unharmed from head-on collision

The four members of the Cascade Quartet were returning from the Arts Northwest Conference in Tacoma, Washington, last week when they saw a car heading towards them down their lane of traffic.

A quick swerve right by violist Maria Ritzenthaler saved their lives. Out came the airbags and the four players climbed safely out onto the verge of the road. The oncoming driver was helicoptered to hospital.
