The National Symphony Orchestra has announced the death of Loren Kitt, its principal clarinet from 1970 to 2016.

    What a joy and pleasure it was to have had twelve years with Loren. Always personable, outspoken when needed and a consummate musician. A very sad day.

    Loren and I played together for several years at the University of Washington High School Music Institute. Such talent and tenacity. When we visited and, then, lived in the other Washington, it always a joy to hear him.
