Recently retired from the Bruckner Orchestra in Linz, Dennis Russell Davies was announced today as chief conductor of the Brno Philharmonic in the Czech Republic.

Brno is renowned for Mies van der Rohe’s Villa Tugendhat, inspiration of Simon Mawer’s novel, The Glass Room.

They can now expect to hear a lot of Glass.

Agreed. Typical of the gossip-column nature of this site. How about an artistic prediction of his work with the orchestra, and what the orchestra is known for? He has a far broader grasp of repertoire than Glass alone. In one season with the SPCO, he paired music by John Cage with Haydn, on every concert. He is fascinating.
