Friends and students are sharing their sorrow at the death of Joan Krueger, owner of a private coaching studio in New York. Joan died today, aged 64, after a 13-year struggle with cancer.

At New York’s Mostly Mozart Festival, she worked with Cecilia Bartoli, Sumi Jo, Vinson Cole and more. She was also assistant conductor at Sarasota Opera and music director for NYU’s Opera Workshop.

Our sympathies to her family.

  • John Gingrich says:

We’ve exchange smiles and waves on NYC West Side corners for more than 30 years. This feels sudden, as Joan never said a word about her illness. She was a warm and solid colleague who will be missed.

  • Karlene Falker says:

Our first connection was really through her mother’s dog Emma at our veterinary clinic in her home town of Tawas. My best friend Annie Rosenmund and her mom Erna brought us closer and then left us for Heaven. I am sure they are having a tea party together now, waiting for the rest of us to join them someday. ❤️ To her sister Jane from all the Falker’s. k

  • Carol Leibner says:

Just an Opera fan who met Joan at Opera events and on the streets of NY. Always friendly and funny and clever and kind to myself and others, as I witnessed. She was a classy gal and fun to have gotten to know, if only too briefly. My condolences to her family. May her memory be for a future blessing.

  • Very saddened by the news. We express our sympathies to Joan’s family. Annamaria and Sergio Stefani.

  • Alicia Alexander says:

I met Joan about 10 years ago when she agreed to be one of our Saturday evening pianists at Rossini’s Restaurant in Murray Hill. Not only did Joan play our classical offerings, but she jumped at the chance to play anything from the American Songbook to cabaret music to Billy Joel! She was a joy to work with and I will always treasure our rides home to the Upper West Side and our not-so-frequent dinner get-togethers. We all miss her terribly at Rossini’s.
