The British-Gibraltarian conductor Karel Mark Chichon, who walked out recently on the radio orchestra in Saarland, has been named music director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria.

(That’s the Canary Islands.)

Chichon, 36, is married to the opera diva Elina Garanča.

  1. Olassus says:

Isn’t this Pedro Halffter’s *other* orchestra?

In other words, Chichón lost out on one but got the other, and a much better home. Is this correct?

    1. Olassus says:

(There was a big fight over the other orchestra, in Sevilla, between Chichón and Halffter.)

  2. Andrew Constantine says:

Good luck to him. I conducted there in December. A very fine orchestra!

Mr Chichon is, reportedly, 46 years old.
