Rami was 21 when he fled Homs in 2015. He crossed eight countries to reach Germany and lost his violin on the way.

But suddenly he has hope.

He illegally crossed eight countries to reach Germany, it’s not like he took a train while reading Yelp reviews. Decca can romanticize this all they want, but they’re making a buck at the expense of someone who broke the law several times, and being given asylum in Germany doesn’t change that.

    • V.Lind says:

Have you ever even heard of Homs, you ignorant bastard? Have you any idea what he was running FROM? And if you hoped to earn your way as a musician would YOU fancy your chances with the Bulgarian music scene? Or the Macedonian? Or any chances with the Hungarians, not notoriously open to refugees?

Perhaps — I am lucky enough not to know, but I do try to keep abreast of what is happening in the world around me — when you are a refugee you have an objective to keep you going. And if you have heard that Germany is a welcoming country, it may seem like a good dream after what you have endured.

Thus Spake The Gutter. The stench is execrable.

    • Bruce says:

Sounds like someone who would answer “yes” when the Gestapo asked “are you hiding Jews in your basement” because it was against the law. (And would probably tell them it was his mother’s idea, so they’d better take her too)

    • John says:

Completely agree. As ever, some will fall for it, but real musicians have no interest in such a record.

  • Elizabeth Owen says:

Oh god you fascist. Let’s hope you are never in the position where you have to do whatever you can to live. Don’t forget to go to church on Sunday. Ugh

  • Ungeheuer says:

Regardless of the man’s story and life struggles, this is nothing but another cynical ploy to sell records. Same thing Decca has done to capitalize on Bocelli’s impairment or whoever it is that published Helfgott (RCA?). Adds new meaning to “Not buying it”.

  • Pianofortissimo says:

    DECCAdence.

  • harold braun says:

The main question now?How does he play…does he deserve a Decca contract, following the likes of Ricci,Perlman,Chung,Belkin,Bell,Jansen et al…?Or is it just a clever marketing trick to make a fast buck by the company once run by people like Maurice Rosengarten,John Culshaw or Michael Haas. The soundtrack of the clip and the recent scandal over Mr.Moretti don’t bode well…

    • John Borstlap says:

What a nonsense. The story is a touching one and the music this chap is going to produce / play, is of the lighter, simpler genre than the core classical repertoire, but so what? There is place for every sort of music, as long as the core repertoire will preserve its central place, somewhere, sometimes. The CD’s will produce income for this refugee which he will need to get his family over. The luke-warm limonade music accompanying the video makes sure there is no misunderstanding for which type of audience the recordings are aimed, so: indignation is entirely unfounded. Some of the comments here on this post are truly disgusting and unbelievable if you think that SD is meant for music lovers, or people at least being interested in music. Shame on you.
