I love this site, find out who’s gay, find out who’s dead, find out which hall is empty or full, find out who has a sore throat, find out who’s violin was cracked on what airline, find out who’s retiring, but I still come everyday to check all the news, after-all this is where I discovered The Nose and theoperaplatform.com.

  • cynical bystander says:

I”m sure Mr Manilow’s millions of fans have forgotten that he is still around and will be even less concerned about ‘our’ rather snide wishes for every happiness. Always assuming that they are aware of ‘our’ existance .

  • Ungeheuer says:

No news to this. One had to have had one’s head buried in a hole not to have known. It was ever so obvious.

  • Walt says:

    Garry Kief is gay??

  • Sue says:

I always regarded Manilow as gay and couldn’t care less. But what really intrigued me is why he wrote such cloying love songs directed specifically at women!! They fell for it in their legions.

    • Jaybuyer says:

You can’t really write cloying love songs specifically about men. It would be so tacky. (See nearly all gay/straight classical composers)

    • Nik says:

I always thought ‘Mandy’ was directed at Peter Mandelson.

    • MWnyc says:

Why did Barry Manilow write love songs directed at women? Because that’s where the money is. You straight people outnumber us by at least 15-to-1. If you want to write megahit songs, you have to aim them at the mega audience.

      • Wolfgang Amadeus Museart says:

Actually the song was written by Scott English and Richard Kerr under the name “Brandy”. Scott English hat a UK hit in 1971. When Barry Manilow recorded his cover version in 1974 the song was renamed to avoid confusion with another song called “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” by the band Looking Glass. “Mandy” became a hit all around the world.

      • Holly Golightly says:

Much more than 15 to 1.

        • M.Boss says:

As a songwriter, I know that some of the words that end up in my songs come from God – they just pop in. I’ve been studying Barry’s music for the past year and what I’m starting see is, a lot of his songs convey true love between a man and woman and highlight moments when that love is separated (This One’s For You, Old Songs, Weekend in New England, etc). Anyone who has been in love (and I’m talking about God putting his special blessing on a relationship) knows that when this sort of relationship is severed, there is pain and you find yourself living in some of the songs that Barry made famous. So, despite Barry coming out of the closet and the slight hypocrisy around the man+woman songs he sang, the songs themselves still speak to so many people because so many people have been in love and couldn’t make it work (because being in love is just plain difficult… but so good at the same time). I think Barry was God’s choice for bringing these songs to the public because Barry, by the grace of God, poured out his heart into the production and performance of these songs – songs that glorify God’s cry for true/intimate love with His creation – songs that cry out “come to Me”. If you never have, go back and listen to some of Barry’s songs again and this time try to see the heart of God in them – after all, everything God created, including music, is for His glory.

  • Dave T says:

    Stunned.

  • Jerry Weihe says:

What an abominable, disgusting admission. Just think how blessed Mr Manilow is, and he reciprocates to GOD by spreading such behavior

  • Plush says:

I think that Slipped Disc is a fag.
