We’ve been asked to post this notice on behalf of David Blackadder, principal trumpet of the Academy of Ancient Music.

STOLEN INSTRUMENT ALERT

AAM PRINCIPAL TRUMPET DAVID BLACKADDER’S (NATURAL) TRUMPETS WERE TAKEN FROM A TRAIN THIS MORNING AS HE TRAVELLED IN TO LONDON FOR A PERFORMANCE THIS EVENING. IT’S BELIEVED SOME YOUTHS RAN ON TO THE TRAIN AT LUTON, TAKING THE BLACK SOFT CASE. A MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC CHALLENGED THEM AND SOME ITEMS HAVE BEEN RECOVERED BUT THE TRUMPETS ARE STILL MISSING. PLEASE SHARE WITH ANY CONTACTS IN THE AREA AND FURTHER AFIELD IN CASE THEY HEAR OF INSTRUMENTS BEING OFFERED FOR SALE.

  • Simon J Evnine says:

On this subject – did anything happen re: the stolen violin of Anthea Kreston (our regular and much admired contributor) ?

  • Michael Smith says:

I hear from AAM that the stolen instruments have now been recovered. Hurray!

  • John Borstlap says:

My fly on the wall informed me that a performance by the [redacted] orchestra required lots of extra trumpets for Kodaly’s Glagolitic Mass, and there were not enough available, which had been discovered only shortly before the first rehearsel. Then some unemployed Polish workers were mobilized and sent-out to the underground and train system to find some instruments, on the statistical assumption that there should be some, given the range of music performances 24/7.
