The director and set designer Thomas Gran But, 32, is working on what he calls an opera installation.

It’s a fully-staged Flying Dutchman on a slag-heap in the Ruhr.

Ever-so-slightly cleaned up, according to the dpa photo.

    It stank. The worst staging of many in a very crowded field. I saw it one day, and then the wonderful Herheim Parsifal on the same trip. You pays your money…
