Stéphane Lissner has rolled out an original season for 2016/17, with 11 new opera productions including one world premiere, a co-pro with London’s Royal College of Music, Britten’s little-seen Owen Wyngrave, Pretty Yende as Lucia di Lammermoor, one conductor under 30, and much else.

    Why is it news that there is one conductor under 30?

      Because we’re obsessed with youth and image, at the expense of substance and genuine musicianship/artistry. Older just doesn’t look good and doesn’t sell well, especially when audiences are increasingly lacking musical judgment and education.
