She’s been on stage since 1956, at Bayreuth since 1960, and she’s not done yet.

Anja Silja, 75, is reciting what is described as the European premiere of Anton Arenski’s Melodramen-Triptychon op. 68 at the Frankfurt Opera next Tuesday.

The pianist is
Andrej Hoteev. Details here.

Questions to those of you who know more about singing and maintaining healthy vocal chords: did Anja Silja get away with singing Wagner roles very young? If so, is there a way to explain it?

  • Stefan says:

Anja Silja returns? Was she ever gone? We heard a lot of her recently and she is singing this season at Komische Oper. There’s not a lot of research going on for your posts!

  • Theodore McGuiver says:

She no longer sings in Bayreuth, so no present perfect, unless it’s to say ‘She hasn’t sung there for fifty years’.
