Having fallen sick with an ear infection at the weekend, the globe-trotting Chinese pianst has pulled out of a Bartok concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Edinburgh Festival tomorrow.

He is to be replaced, in a different concerto, by Pierre-Laurent Aimard.

Lang Lang has been the festival’s concert headliner. He’s hoping to be fit for Friday’s recital.

His hyperactive social media team have failed to announce the cancellation.

  • Jonathan M. Dunsby says:

Lang Lang was going to do Bartok 2nd concerto and it’s not surprising that Aimard has changed this because it’s the very concerto which gave the latter some strained hand problems when he was playing it in US once. It’s a monster of a pice

  • John Borstlap says:

An ear infection? Probably from playing too loudly.

  • V.Lind says:

Thanks for finally letting us know why he withdrew from the Eschenbach thing. You presented his withdrawal there last week as if he were skiving, whole poor Midori withdrew for reasons of ill-health and therefore was presented as sympathetic compared to the brutal Lang Lang. Not quite kosher somehow, even f you don’t like him.

    • Brian from Washington says:

Huh. So Lang Lang’s withdrawal from the Eschenbach birthday gala had nothing to do with “major artists don’t want to be seen with nor perform under Eschenbach anymore, as it really doesn’t help their careers to be associated with this man as he has far too much baggage”, as we were reliably informed by one of SlippedDisk’s fans. In any case, Lang Lang tweeted his regrets for not being there, and the gala was a still big success according to the German press.
