The great Russian baritone has just issued the following statement on his website:

It is with great regret that Dmitri must cancel all performances from now until the end of August. He has recently been suffering from serious health issues, and a brain tumor has just been diagnosed. Although his voice and vocal condition are normal, his sense of balance has been severely affected. Dmitri will begin treatment this week and remains very optimistic for the future.

hvorostovsky

We wish Dmitri a full recovery.

Winner of the 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World, Dmitri has gone on to sing at all major opera houses. In Russia he commands the highest fees of any recitalist, while steering clear of paying homage to the Putin regime. Dmitri, 52, is one of the most popular singers among his colleagues.

  • Judith Fleet Wisdom says:

Since hearing, just two days ago about Mr. Hvorostovsky’s illness I have had a very heavy heart. Today I went to YouTube to hear him sing and heard him talk with Bing and Dennis in a recorded interview. That revealed such depths of warmth, understanding and reflection on the human condition, on his family of origin and how his upbringing as an Eastern European, particularly a Russian, has shaped his spirit, mood. He became so much more wonderful to me beyond what comes across in his singing. A lively and deep man. I turned to the Internet to find out the latest on his condition like I’m sure many of his admirers who are not part of the world of music, and I like so many others dearly hope his treatment restores his health so that he can perform again, Verdi or pop and be to his wife and children all that he wants to be.

Rezo por su recuperación. Soy una admiradora de su voz desde la Patagonia Chilena

  • Loretta says:

Helen was right – You must use alternative/natural medicine to stop the tumor’s return. Your lifestyle must change as necessary to support health – Severe limitation of alcohol consumption, keep your cell phone away from your head and body, be sure to get enough sunshine and maintain peace of mind. SB, MD, is a Polish-American physician in Houston, Texas, who has had great success with glioblastomas treated alternatively (redacted). There are numerous German alternative cancer clinics. It is important to seek this help even if the tumor has been obliterated by chemo or radiation. You are loved by many – And many want to see you live a long healthy life and sing forever!

  • Marcela Brandstatter says:

You are always in our thoughts. You are loved by many.Love Marcela

  • Bettye Butterworth says:

20 years ago you gave me the greatest pleasure, with a recital in Brisbane Australia
Although the concert hall was not full, everyone knew that your future was to
be wonderful. May this illness clear and you continue to enjoy life, and give us all so much joy.
    ,..Bettye
