Having turned around the fortunes of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra over the past 12 years, Marek Janowski has had enough.

The vastly experienced Janowski, 76, has turned down a contract renewal and will leave next year. Details here.

    From the article it appears that it was not Janowski, but Fruebeck de Burgos who in 1999 laid-down his baton due to budget cuts and dumbing-down pressures. Janowski has helped saving the orchestra from such pressures and now it is one of the German top orchestras. Its position seems established nowadays.
