London orch snaps student as principal trumpet

James Fountain, 20, a third-year student at the Guildhall School of Music, has been named Principal Trumpet of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

They’re getting younger all the time.

    I am glad for him, and I think it is also a credit to British brass bands that they can still foster talents. Having played solo cornet also gives the British trumpeters a very special sound of their own, just like Austrian trombone players, who often started in local brass bands playing the Barytone.
