The liquidation of Rome Opera – music director: Riccardo Muti – has been called off. For a month, at least.

A peace deal has been put on the table for the unions to consider in a referendum. There will be cuts, but not as deep as feared. For the moment.

    The Rome’s Major, President of Rome Opera House Administration by law, has just told on television that cuts will not affect employement. Unions on strile are a minority. They could avoid all this having then to step back.

    I just don’t see how Peter Gelb manages to screw up opera companies so far away from New York.
