Slipped Disc has moved to a standalone site. The address is www.slippedisc.com – note the single d.

The content is unchanged and the aim is to make the reader experience more friendly in a number of ways.

We hope you enjoy the new site, which will continue in association with artsjournal.com.

There are still a few teething problems – comments do not seem to be getting through – but we hope to resolve them by the end of the day.

I do not like this new format for slipped disc. Previously I could browse every headline with ease, one page only, to select the posts I wanted to read in depth. Now I must do numerous click click clicks to see what is offered, very time consuming. Not nearly as friendly as before. Please return to the original format.

    • Congratulations on the new look. One thing that I dont seem to be able to do here is see a list of recent comments. This used to be on the right hand side of every page and I used it to see which threads were worth revisiting. For instance, sometimes a new comment would refer to an old posting and the possibility of my revisiting something that was three pages away from the home page and reading the new comment would have been next to nil had it not been for the provision of this list.

Thanks for the comment. Let’s see what we can do.

          I like the new look!

I agree with David about seeing the recent comments. I also appreciated seeing how many comments a certain post has right where the blog entry is. Sometimes seeing that there have been a few comments will sometimes pique my interest to click on a story.

All comments and suggestions are being gratefully considered.

I like the new look. I am not bothered by the fact that there are less new topics on the front page. I like that one can mouse over the new topics and the full description opens up.

But I agree with all of the above that it would be nice to have the list of recent posts back on the right side. That way, one’s attention is drawn to a topic one has maybe overlooked or just not participated in, so new post notifications don’t come in by email.

It seems that when I post a comment, there is no email anymore that asks me to confirm subscription to that thread. But I still get the “new post” notification. Is that the way it now works?

          • Michael Schaffer says:

One other thing: if it is possible to implement that, it would be nice if one could delete or edit a post, at least for as long as it’s awaiting moderation. That way, if one writes a post and then finds something went wrong with, e.g. formatting or a link, one could rectify that before it gets locked down.

@David Pickett: Absolutely; I particularly appreciated this feature, it was very helpful. As for the new format, it’ll take some getting used to but it certainly looks more professional than before. I’d prefer as many articles as possible on each page; scrolling down is maybe better than clicking…

        • Christy says:

I agree with you – the new look is much more slick and professional. 🙂 Congratulations, Norman!

I also very much miss being able to quickly scan top comments. Often this would help me understand better what the story was about and also if the topic had generated interest among others. Definitely encouraged me to read certain posts I wouldn’t have otherwise.

    Handsome!

And glad to read it is still in association with Arts Journal.

  • Tor Fromyhr says:

Looks cleaner, less cluttered and I am sure the content will be just as compelling. However the lack of obvious indexing to past posts is an issue. Re the new name, I like the logo with the ‘slipped double ‘D’ however is it pronounced Slippe – disc or Slipped-isc? Clever – perhaps too clever. Best wishes for the site.

    • English is not Finnish! Repeat “slipped disc” quickly, several times, and if you are doing it right it is impossible to detect the presence of two Ds in the spelling!

  • kuoirad says:

I may have missed it in my initial persual of the new site, but is there an RSS feed available for this new incarnation?

  • Daniel says:

Have started reading the blog in the past 6 months, been visiting a number of times daily in the past weeks, but far from being the right reader to judge. The original layout seemed more accessible to me, but maybe we’ll all get used to it soon. Anyway congratulations to the upgrade and keep up the good work!

  • Unlike the old website, the field for attaching a website to one’s comment does not recognise a url unless www is prefixed by “http://”

The way the titles of the articles cut off on the first page is disconcerting.

Otherwise, congratulations on the circumstances that necessitated the move.
