Clarification by Kurt Masur on the Brazil situation
mainI have received the following message from Mr Masur’s office:
“Due to an ongoing medical treatment since May 2011, resulting in cancellations in Paris, Israel, Leipzig and St. Petersburg, Maestro Kurt Masur has been urged by his doctors not to work or travel and to take an extensive break this summer to pursue this necessary treatment.
Dear Norman.
While I am sorry to hear of Masur’s health problems ( I wouldn’t wish this on anyone) the statement issued by he and his office pretty much sums up his continued frightful position.”…he has the utmost respect for Roberto Minczuk and sends his love to the OSB.” He clearly does not love the OSB by declaring his undying love for Roberto Minczuk. Perhaps he meant to say that he loves the FOSB, which I see as being a very different thing altogether. The OSB is/was an orchestra made up of musicians, many of whom Masur’s great love, Minczuk, fired. The FOSB is an institution made up of misguided souls like Roberto Minczuk. Kurt Masur loves the FOSB.
Yes Rob, I agree with you.
All is clear now. He has joined the group that has nothing to say about this terrible crisis. It is a very sad position to take: he wants to stay right on top of the wall. If Minczuk stays he loves him. If he gets fired he loves the BSO.
He has forgotten the musicians of the orchestra just like his pupil did.
It doesn’t sound nice for thousands of people around the globe: Masur still loves “The least-loved conductor of all times”.
Shame on them and shame on the internationally known maestro (!!) that is about to come to replace Mr. Masur, that should have replaced Mr. Minczuk, that supposed to conduct the replacement orchestra almost replaced by the OSB Jovem (Youth BSO) and replaced by young-opportunist fellows that didn’t pay attention to the international boycott and that are replacing the dead Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, when she was 70 years old.
The whole world knows who has to be replaced.
Abraços!!

This is exactly the same message published at OSB blog. (http://www.osbempauta.com.br/?p=3584).
But the ongoing medical treatment seems to inhibit just travels to Brazil. The extensive break this summer to pursue this necessary treatment will wait a bit more, since the activities are intense:
On June 29, 2011, in Zurich, the writer reveals his excitement to see “the venerable Kurt Masur still conducting, quite regularly it appears from looking at the calendar on his website, at the ripe age of 84.” At Tanglewood, on 15h july the author says: “Less predictably, Kurt Masur was in fine form for Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel” and, to open the program, Schumann’s Second Symphony.
Beethoven 9th, Strauss Till Eulenspiegel… It is a quite hard program to some one with medical problems reported, isn’t it?
